Oh Hey, and There's This:

One more thing: Vita.mn posted kind of a cool little blurb about Art-A-Whirl, in their "Quality Over Kitsch" section of their issue. They wrote this about the Fox Tax Show:

Finally, it wouldn't be Art-A-Whirl without an Emma Berg-curated show at the Fox Tax Gallery...Alex Kuno caught our eye with Lemony Snicket-inspired tableaux, where children navigate a dangerous realm of cannibalism, abduction and dismemberment. Friday's opening party (6-11 p.m.) will most likely be a grand affair.

Okay, so there's that too.

Hi again.

In the Star Tribune's article about Fox Tax's role in Art-A-Whirl, there's a little blurb in there about my work, including some really boring quotes from me. Here's what Mary Abbe wrote about my stuff:

Magic seems to permeate all of the show's paintings in different ways. Alex Kuno describes his narrative images as "dark, surreal improvised fairy tales." Tapping into the overactive imagination he nurtured growing up in Anoka, he has created a fascinating series of slightly ghoulish but winsome images of children facing nasty perils -- dragon, bear trap, arrow attack -- with plucky bravado. Often wearing animal costumes, the children are frequently caught in archetypal plights from literature or legend including scenes derived from the lives of Saints George and Sebastian.
"It's about the intersection between adult responsibilities and the anxieties and fears of children, and how adult decisions are always based on those fears and dreams," Kuno said.

Anyway, yeah. That's it. Still though, it's nice to have my name in paper for something like this, rather than constantly bringing up that dog-fighting ring I started. God, Media: get over it! The other 9/10ths of the article can be found here:

New Images

Hi. Nick and I have "officially" just started work on our Story Time show at the Rosalux Gallery this August. We've been planning to collaborate on something for a long time, so even in these preliminary stages we can already tell this is shaping up to be a pretty solid show. We're really looking forward to seeing how it all comes together, so check back often because there's going to be plenty more updates as time goes on.

In the meantime, here are some detail shots of some of the new pieces I'm working on for the show:

Several of these pieces will be finished in time for the More Is A Four-Letter Word show at the gallery at Fox Tax, opening on 5/15/09 (in time for the Art-A-Whirl Festival in NE Minneapolis)and others will be on view a couple of weeks later, at a solo show in SooVAC's smaller gallery in Uptown. So yeah. Just so you know.
